As part of the Association’s mission to promote healthy active living, MAHPERD offers association members an excellent opportunity to obtain funding for projects, programs, and materials that help their students or community achieve or help achieve an awareness of accomplishment activity toward healthy and active lifestyles.
Association grants were designed to enhance health, Physical Education, Recreation, or Dance programs within the school and community setting.
Both MAHPERD Grants and Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart (JR/HFH) Mini-Grants were developed to provide additional funding opportunities for educators in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and related disciplines, and for Jump and Hoops Coordinators in the field.
MAHPERD Grants are for a maximum of $1,000 per application; JR/HFH Grants are for a maximum of $500.
Applicants must be members of the Association when submitting their application, during the selection and granting process, and throughout the duration of the grant cycle. JRFH/HFH applicants must also have conducted a JRFH/HFH event during the school year previous to applying.
Potential funding uses may include (but are not exclusive to):
- Projects that raise awareness of a health or fitness issue;
- Programs changing unhealthy behaviors or environments that place young people at risk for health problems;
- Equipment such as pedometers, heart monitors, or other equipment or materials to supplement or expand an existing physical activity program;
- Programs or educational materials providing physical activity or nutrition awareness or other special activity/event developed for K-12 students.
Grant recipients are announced at the annual State Convention in November and are requested to provide reports on how funds were used.
