The general welfare of the individual citizen is the first concern of a democratic society.  Health and education become important, therefore, to any organization devoted to serving citizen's needs, thus, an opportunity to enjoy an optimal quality of life through participation in an active, creative, health-promoting lifestyle should be provided to those citizens.

Michigan Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) is dedicated to the promotion of the organization of School, Community, and National programs for health education, physical education, recreation and dance which will embody such opportunities and which will insure the inclusion of such programs within the best philosophical and social context of American life.
